So we were originally hoping on co-hosting a Moon Festival celebration with CSA, but our busy schedules got the better of us (as well as the fact that moon cakes flew out the door as the holiday passed) and instead we had an extremely successful Dumpling Night! It was great to see everyone mingling and just enjoying the dumplings that we made by hand! Props to the officers who toiled over the stove all night :P Hope that those of you who went had a great time as well!

Maria

Hey everyone! Just wanted to thank you all for a wonderfully yummy and merry general body meeting a few weeks ago! We’re so glad that so many of you came out to chill with the officers and hope we will see you guys at our future events! Some events we have in mind for this semester are:

  • Moon Festival celebration
  • Taiwan 101
  • Mahjong/Games Night
  • …?! (suggestions welcome!)

Last week, we were also at the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Education (OMSE) Unity Welcome, where other cultural groups and campus departments gathered for an afternoon of music, food, and fun! We are also planning the above events, and if you guys have any input on what other events you would like to have, let us know! (Our email is umcptasa@gmail.com)

On an administrative note, if you guys have any announcements that you think the general body should know, please also email that to our Gmail so we can keep our blog clean and relevant ~ thanks!

Hello everyone! This is Maria, one of UMCP TASA’s co-presidents speaking! If this is your first time here, WELCOME! This is our blog, where we’ll share more long-winded updates as well as other fun random thoughts. Our official website is being updated so hopefully you’ll be able to leaf through more information about us soon!

To give a quick overview, our organization aims to promote the Taiwanese/Taiwanese American culture, language, history, and current affairs both on our campus and off, by providing a forum for exchange of such information and ideas and developing a strong relationship with other organizations at the University of Maryland. We are open to any and all who are interested in the Taiwanese culture, regardless of differing cultures, so we hope to see you at our events!

This past summer, it was FUNDRAISING GALORE! We held a grand total of 3 car washes and 1 bake sale, all of which couldn’t have been done without the hardworking officers and those who came out to support us! Thank you for contributing (in person or in spirit!) to a more fulfilling year!

Speaking of this year, we’ve got loads of events coming up and can’t wait to meet all of you! Here they are below:

First Look Fair – September 15-16th, 10 AM – 3 PM
McKeldin Mall, University of Maryland
*Come visit our table in the “Cultural Org” section to sign up on our listserv, chat with the officers, and find out more about us!

Break the Ice with TASA – September 20th, 6:30 PM
St. Mary’s Multipurpose Room, University of Maryland (Facebook event link)
*Our first general body meeting (GBM) of the year! Come socialize with all the members of TASA as we kick off the school year with some FREE shaved ice! We’ll be talking about who we are, upcoming events, and more!

Alrighty that’s all I have for now! I can’t wait to get to know everyone, and hope to see you guys at our table this week and/or next week!

Here’s how you can help:
1) Go to Yami Yami :P
2) When you order your yummy sushi and/or bubble tea, make sure to mention that you’re there for the “BENEFIT CONCERT” **this is very important**
3) When you say “BENEFIT CONCERT”, 10% of your purchase will go towards the cause!
